Held in Gordon each year on the third week of August, the Sheridan County Fair and Rodeo is the third largest rodeo in Nebraska and highly ranked throughout the western United States.
The Rodeo features bareback riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, barrel racing, bull ridding, steer wrestling, plus the "protector of the cowboy" -- the rodeo clown -- and is a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys' Association (PRCA).
Organized in 1885, Sheridan County named Rushville as its county seat in 1888. The county initially rented office space. In February 1904
